Cost of Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Station

Microgrid believes in the necessity of a transition from petroleum-derived transportation to a network driven by an electric charging infrastructure.  But what are individual costs of these charging stations and what role might solar play financially in electricity generation?

What does EV Charging Cost?

  • Microgrid will perform a free preliminary site survey and customized proposal.
  • The typical cost or EV charging equipment and installation is between $8,000 – $18,000.
  • A 30% Federal Tax Credit for charging infrastructure reduces the overall installed cost of charging stations by 30%, up to $30,000 per location.  With the purchase of an electric vehicle, owners receive up to $7,500 in tax credits.
  • If you’re a municipality, school or non-tax paying entity, we may be able to help you gain benefits from this tax credit.

What does Solar Cost?

While some invest in EV charging for energy security reasons or their interest in offering their employees and customers the latest amenities, others invest in EV charging because of the ease with which EV charging can be installed with cleaner sources of energy such as solar.  When installed with solar, EV charging stations can offset the electricity required to power the charging station through solar energy generated onsite.

  • Microgrid will perform a preliminary site survey and then provide you with a customized solar proposal that includes a full financial analysis (in conjunction with an EV proposal).
  • Simple Estimation – Use these simple rules of thumb for estimating costs. http://microgrid-solar.com/estimation/
  • There are also cost efficiencies to installing both solar PV and EV charging stations.  When you install an EV charging station with solar, Microgrid will the bundle the cost of installation – thereby reducing the overall cost of the project.
